1. About Global Human Library
Global Human Library (“GHL”, “we”, “us”) preserves lived experiences as learning resources. Our programmes include Human Expressions (creative testimonies), Human Circles (group reflection), Human Conversations (dialogue), Human Talks (experience-led talks), related activities, and public archives of approved contributions.
2. Eligibility and accounts
You must provide accurate information when you register and keep your account credentials confidential. You are responsible for activity under your account.
If you use Google sign-in, you must also comply with Google’s terms for that sign-in method.
We may refuse, suspend, or close accounts that violate these Terms, abuse the platform, or put others at risk.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the site for unlawful, harmful, deceptive, or exploitative purposes.
- Harass, threaten, defame, or discriminate against others.
- Upload malware, attempt unauthorised access, scrape the site aggressively, or disrupt services.
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with GHL.
- Submit content you do not have the right to share, or that unlawfully discloses someone else’s private information.
- Use GHL to advertise products or services except where we expressly invite partnership or sponsorship.
4. Contributions and submissions
You may submit lived-experience materials (writing, visual art, photography, audio, video, mixed media, captions, and related details) through Human Expressions, activity forms, or similar channels.
Submissions are generally subject to review. Approval, rejection, editing requests, or removal are at GHL’s reasonable discretion to protect dignity, safety, accuracy of presentation, and the purpose of the library.
You must only submit content that is authentic to lived experience in the sense our programmes describe—not fabricated impersonation, and not promotional lectures that conflict with programme rules stated on an activity page.
5. Ownership and licence to GHL
You retain ownership of the intellectual property in your original contributions, unless you and GHL agree otherwise in writing.
By submitting content, you grant GHL a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt for formatting, publicly display, publicly perform, distribute, and otherwise use the contribution in connection with operating, promoting, and archiving the Global Human Library and its programmes—on our website and in related educational or community contexts we reasonably choose.
This licence continues for content we have published even if you later close your account, except where we agree in writing to remove it or are legally required to do so. You may request removal of published work by contacting us; we will consider requests carefully, balancing your wishes with archive integrity, citations, and legal duties.
You confirm that you have all rights needed to grant this licence, and that your submission does not infringe others’ rights.
6. Moderation and programme rules
Activity pages may include extra rules (themes, formats, age criteria, timelines, consent notes, school participation terms). Those rules apply in addition to these Terms.
Where parent or guardian consent is required, submissions without valid consent may be refused or removed.
We may edit presentation metadata (for example titles for clarity) without changing the substance of your lived-experience content, or ask you to revise a submission before approval.
7. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect and use personal information. By using the site, you also acknowledge that policy. Public contributions are intended to be visible; do not include information you wish to keep private.
8. Third-party services
The site may use or link to third parties such as Google (sign-in, reCAPTCHA), YouTube, hosting providers, and social networks. Your use of those services is subject to their terms and privacy policies. GHL is not responsible for third-party sites or outages outside our reasonable control.
9. Our site content and branding
Unless otherwise stated, the GHL name, logo, design system, and original site materials are owned by GHL or its licensors. You may not copy or reuse them for commercial purposes without permission, except for ordinary viewing and sharing of public links.
Approved contributor content remains subject to the licence in section 5 and any credit practices we display on the site.
10. Disclaimers
GHL provides an educational and community archive of lived experience. Content reflects personal perspectives and is not professional advice (legal, medical, financial, or otherwise).
The site and programmes are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access, error-free operation, or that every submission will be published.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, GHL and its team will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the site or reliance on published contributions.
Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the specific service giving rise to the claim in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) fifty US dollars (or local currency equivalent), except where law requires otherwise.
12. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless GHL and its team from claims, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your content, your misuse of the site, or your breach of these Terms, except to the extent caused by our wilful misconduct.
13. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the site at any time. We may suspend or terminate access, remove content, or restrict features if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if needed to protect users or the integrity of the library.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. If you continue to use the site after changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree, stop using the site and contact us about your account or published work.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Pakistan, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, unless mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence provide otherwise. Courts in Lahore, Pakistan may have jurisdiction, subject to those mandatory protections.
